The 1960’S Collection – Sock it to me!

Celebrate the Swinging 60’s Highlighting the fashion and the intense primary colours driven by youth. Women wore “ Mod” fashions with bold, bright colours and large prints that often were eclectic in design. Hemlines slowly crept up to 7-8 inches above the knee as mini skirts, worn with white patent leather “Go Go Boots.” Loose fitting boxy shift dresses created a relaxed silhouette showcasing colourful geometric shapes in vivid yellows, blues and reds. The chiffon baby doll dress with its tight bodice and flouncy bottom was worn as eveningwear. Tight fitting stirrup pants with a high waist and tapered leg was worn as casualwear, and pedal pushers or hot pants for summerwear. Tailored pants suits became a wardrobe staple with fabric covered buttons in brilliant colours. Psychedelic swirls, almost memorizing designs became popular. Knitwear for women favoured the chunky knits with an oversized rolled neck and big buttons worn below the hip. Many dresses were crocheted with daring circular cut outs alone the sides or around the waist with a loose fitting chain belt and colourful tights.

Men’s fashion, influenced by British designers, was also bold and colourful with boxy collarless jackets, slim pants and bright patterned skinny ties. Jackets and mismatched pants with saturated colours in plaid patterns were often worn with a turtle neck. A solid colour pair of red pants with a yellow plaid jacket was considered “Mod”, accentuating the primary colours. Knitwear was colourful with strips, large chevron and geometric tile design patterns. Knitted vests where often worn in place of a jacket.
